ABOUT ABOUT

At its final community meeting, GRAY AREA invites the public to once again “play cards” and further test and refine its in-progress preservation toolkit by applying the kit to an expanded range of historic sites around Powelton Village and Mantua.

GRAY AREA is developing the toolkit as a deck of cards designed to promote community dialogue and provocative thinking about old buildings and sites. The goal is to create a tool that will be replicable elsewhere and useful to communities both in brainstorming about historic sites and evaluating actual development proposals.

So, for this meeting, GRAY AREA will test the toolkit customized for additional challenging sites near Hawthorne Hall, GRAY AREA’s current study site, at 3849 Lancaster Ave. They are: Lombard Central Presbyterian Church, 4201 Powelton Ave.; the proposed Mantua Greenway, 31st and Spring Garden to 40th and Parrish; Gosnell Clinic, 3801 Lancaster Ave. and Drew School, 3724 Warren St.

Attendees will be asked to provide feedback and ideas about the toolkit itself and about the sites.

GRAY AREA is an experiment and public dialogue to encourage new ways of thinking about older buildings and sites. Visit us online, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @GrayAreaPhilly
